Sonia is an artist living and working on the sunny Isle of Wight. Largely self –taught, Sonia does however take time out from looking after her toddler with short courses at the Quay Arts Centre.
I love to use colour and different styles to express my feelings of the spaces and views I have seen in my travels and at home on the island. “Travel” or rather the locations I arrive at and our beautiful natural environment, are the inspiration for my work. For me, new views are refreshing and inspiring and it from these experiences I paint. I find myself moving through the distinctions of realism and abstraction and style in an effort to tease out my experience of a particular place. For me this is also like travel: to freely movement through formal styles and distinctions of painting is like moving to a different country, where the rules are never the same.
