Kate Richardson Isle of Wight day artsI grew up in an outdoor lifestyle as part of a sailing family living on the River Hamble, near the Solent. A huge amount of inspiration comes from sailing with my husband and our two children on our classic yacht  which takes us on adventures around the solent and beyond. I enjoyed art at school and this progressed into formal training at the City & Guilds of London Art School studying Sculpture and Drawing.
From my  studio in Cowes, I try and use paint and ink etc to show the energy and movement of many things and I really enjoy expressing myself with the yachts and landscapes and life drawing as well as figurative sculptures using clay which i then cast using the waste moulding technique. I enjoy the effect of using lovely bright colours  which, if you look hard enough, can be seen all around us. The images are established using a firm line and the colours are applied to the canvas onto a bold textured surface to gain a richness of depth and this combination expresses energy, movement, and an enjoyable visual experience.
