Caroline Underwood isle of wight artCaroline Underwood is inspired by the meditative and restorative potential of time spent being in nature.  She explores ways to represent landscape in terms of the elements, light and darkness, space and time.  Working across drawing, painting, printmaking and digital media, her studio practice contrasts and combines traditional and experimental processes. The work is informed by time spent outdoors, walking, running and sailing. Caroline’s responses to places, moments and memories are developed in series or as installations, representing the way she experiences her environment: not just looking at the landscape, but moving through it, being in it.

Caroline Underwood graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art (2003), completed teacher training at the London Arts Consortium (2004) and an MA in Fine Art at City & Guilds of London Art School (2007). In 2009-2010 she was Artist in residence at University for the Creative Arts as part of the Artists Access to Art Colleges scheme and in 2013 she was Artist Researcher Educator in residence at the Centre for Arts and Learning, Goldsmiths, University of London.
